Just like the numerous Lotteries in Spain, Fiestas are a regular and enjoyable part of Spanish life. They happen regularly throughout the year, on days or nights and are dedicated to festivities with fun, enjoyment and excitement. They include religious ceremonies, musical performances and bull runs, making the Spanish Fiestas a truly colourful and memorable spectacle.
Some dates to Remember:
January 5th - The Three Kings
End of February: Mig Amy, (Communal feast and Procession of Music and Dance).
12 - 19 March, Fellas. (Parade and Burning of Paper Mache Figurines.)
Ontinyent celebrates its Moors and Christians Fiestas every year at the end of August, (the third Friday of the month) in honour of "Santisimo Cristo de la Agonia", the Patron Saint of the town. The city re-enacts from 1860 the Christian conquest of the villiage made by Jamie 1 in the X111th century and the battles against the Muslim troops. In all the events, and especially in the "Entra" (the entrance of the troops), factors of great popular attraction come together; the liking of drama and fancy dress. The music and the noise of the gunpowder make these celebrations of great interest to the tourist.

With a long calender of events between November and December, the purissima Fiestas (Our Patron Saint) have a tradition that has existed since the XVIIth century we can point out religious events such as Little Angels, Offering Flowers to the Virgin, and popular events like the Bou en corda (Bull Baiting), els Gegants i Cabets (Giants and Fatheads) and the traditional dance of the Arquets, Cavellets i Veta. There are fiestas all through the year and something to excite the taste of everyone.
